Apache Introduces TORNADO F1 Automatic Blade Control

Dayton, Ohio, September 6, 2004

The Apache TORNADO F1 Automatic Blade Control is a laser based grade control system used on construction machinery to automatically control the blade in earthmoving and grading applications. It is also used on agricultural drainage and land leveling machinery.

A BULLSEYE laser receiver is mounted above the cutting edge of the blade. A control box and a hydraulic installation kit are tied into the machine's hydraulic system. Grade information from a rotating laser is processed and automatically directs the machine's hydraulics to maintain the elevation of the blade.

BULLSEYE laser receivers work with all common rotating lasers. Patented advanced proportional photocell technology assures maximum accuracy. BULLSEYE models 5, 5MC, and 6 are designed for use with automatic blade control.

The control box is mounted in the cab. Adjustments can be made for accuracy from 0 to 1.50 inches in 1/10 inch increments. Adjustment of the hydraulic speed (gain) is also possible in the cab. The control box is designed to work with most hydraulic valves, from on/off (bang-bang) solenoid valves to fully proportional valves. Proportional valves provide precise, smooth, rapid control to maximize accuracy. Complete hydraulic and electric kits are available.

A telescoping mast is available for mounting the receivers on bulldozers. The STM1 mast has a 4-foot telescoping adjustment range with a scale. Built-in shock mounts on all four sides provide excellent damping of the laser receiver in rough operating conditions.
